A couple of weeks ago, I talked about how one of my favorite details of retreat planning is creating our welcome bags. Our welcome bags hold a special place in my heart because they’re rooted in relationships—each one reflects connections I’ve built with inspiring local artists and talent. Featuring their work is a way to honor creativity, uplift the local economy, and bring an authentic sense of place into the retreat. This week I want to introduce you to one of my favorite collaborators Alain Eagles. Alain is a renaissance man with two decades of global experience in percussion, specializing in djembe drumming, team building and art production. Hailing from Johannesburg, South Africa, Alain brings a rich cultural perspective to his latest series Tuk Tuk Life.
“Traveling from Sedona, Arizona in a car, a camper and a motorbike, I became captivated by the way the tuk tuk was used throughout my journey from Mexico through Central America to Costa Rica. I began painting a series of different tuk tuks really tuning into their own stories and how essential they are to Central American life - they connect people. Everyone who has travelled through Central America has a tuk tuk story they can connect with. And, that is the tuk tuk life.” - Alain Eagles.
